Are you the type of person who always reaches for the salt shaker? Is your idea of a good time more in the "savory" category than the "sweet"? Well read on. Walt has invented what might be the best drink ever.

A few weeks ago I went with my friend Melissa to the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side. We bought our tickets early and had some time to kill before our tour began, so after discovering that she had never eaten a bialy, I quickly moved to remedy that shortcoming. We can't send her off to the hinterlands of Montana a bialy virgin. That feat accomplished, we moved on to Guss' Pickles, where I stocked up on containers of pickles (Walt claims that the half sour are the best, but I prefer the full-on dills) and garlic-stuffed olives. Eventually we finished the pickles, but couldn't manage to discard the lovely brine left in the container.

Which brings us to this evening when Walt, in a stroke of genius, invented a drink which involves some pickle juice (obviously we're partial to Guss') and some decent gin, topped off with seltzer.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present "The Izzy" -- feel free to recreate at home. Don't try this with crappy grocery store pickles, however. The name comes from Izzy Guss, founder of the Lower East Side pickle empire.
