The ruins of Surrender Lead Smelting Mill in Swaledale, with the remains of the peat store beyond.
The furnaces to smelt the lead were fuelled mainly by peat. The peat was generally stored on higher ground to help in the drying process. The Surrender Mill is situated within metres of Surrender Bridge, between Low Moor and Langthwaite in Swaledale, The Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, UK
