The footpath to and from the reservoir lies next to 'limersgate' to the right - an ancient packhorse trail originally for the transportation of lime from the nearby kilns. Coal from the nearby Gambleside colliery was also possibly transported from here. The medieval settlement of Gambleside now lies submerged beneath the waters of Clowbridge Reservoir, Burnely, Lancashire UK, (Dec 2019)
