The Robin will sing all year round to protect their territory and to attract a mate, they have adapted to live in poor light and are one of the first birds to sing in the mornings and one of the last to stop singing in the evening, their alarm call is a loud ticking sound to warn others of a possible threat. The male and female are almost identical in shape and colour and the Juveniles have brown speckled upper and under parts with no red breast to protect them from attacks by other birds within their territory, the young birds start to get the red breast when they are about two to three months old. The breeding season starts in late March and lasts until July, they usually have between 4-6 eggs with an egg laid every day, the female incubates the eggs for 13 days and the young fledge after 14 more days and the Robins have two broods per year. They like to eat a mixture of insects, worms, fruit and seeds and will come into the garden and seem quite at ease if you are working in the garden or sitting down.
