In bird in flight photography, we should focus on birds’ eyes and heads, and them being in good focus and sharp. The other parts of the bird need to be sharp too, but if the eyes and heads aren’t sharp, we should delete the picture mostly. Zoom in 100% in on the pictures and see if they are sharp in the eyes and head.

Capturing birds in flight is not easy especially with longer lenses, so it needs some practice. Make sure bird in flight should be in focus from the first image. If the first image is not in focus, all the pictures in the sequence will be blurry. Sometime the camera cannot focus, and the bird passes away and we cannot even take one picture, which is disappointing.

Birds in flight look more interesting than birds sitting. There is a lot of gears in the market. If you are a Nikon shooter, you should have Nikon D6 with a prime lens which are expensive. Nikon D6 is a sport and wildlife camera and has a fast autofocus system. Prime telephoto lenses are expensive because they have fast autofocus motors. You can still take sharp images with affordable cameras and zoom lenses, but with more expensive gears you can save a lot of time because most of the images come out sharp and clear.

Macro photography is so simple, and they are so easy to find, but not macro 1:1. Sometimes I need to drive a few miles to find a small subject. I only need a 105mm macro lens which is small and compact, so I can get closer to the subject and it can still focus. I have 3 macro lenses. I like Sigma because of the image stabilization.

It is winter now and most of the birds are coming from different places to our city. This is a good season for bird photography. I need to find different places for different birds, but I don’t have enough time because I am a university student. I like to post more landscape pictures in spring.
