With her quick wit and enchanting smile, Sherry could stop traffic anywhere in the world. Toss in a feather boa, and she can not only stop traffic, but direct it as well. I stopped her in between engagements, and she graciously agreed to allow a few photographs for the 100 Strangers project.

I like this capture the best. The negative space reminds me of Piet Mondrian's work. The opposition of the angles in the negtive space and the friendly tilt of Sherry's smile offset each other. The geometric squares of the background and her soft feather boa converge to make a nice juxtaposition. It's something the Art Director might approve of.

As I near the end of my 100 Strangers project, I find that I am much more apt to instinctively capture nice compositions that I may not see at the time. When I evaluate them later though, it's usually the ones that I took first that captivate me. Not only is the person's facial expression more fresh and engaging, but the composition is more subconciously fascinating as well. Oh, and Sherry is the proud owner of a dachshund that she lavishly dotes on.

Thank you Sherry, for being stranger number ninety-one in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.

Photographing strangers in masks at Mardi Gras was not much of a challenge. People are able to keep their anonymity behind the mask, even if they do give their names and tell a bit about themselves.

So, I set out this afternoon to find an unmasked stranger in a hat. Flickr Group Roulette was invading Hat Monday, and I decided to challenge myself by combining the invasion with 100 Strangers. It didn't take long.

After photographing Mona, I saw two dapper ladies sashaying down the promenade. When I intercepted them and asked for a photograph, they hesitated. I quickly explained the 100 Strangers project, and gave them my card. Finally, Sandy said "Oh go ahead, if we can't get on the internet by being bad, it may as well be from looking good!" Party on ladies! Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Sandy and Jennifer are the eighty-sixth encounter in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.

This year's Mardi gras is infused with Superbowl mania, making for a gigantic party across Louisiana. Meet Nicole and Rob, Mardi Gras revelers and Saint fans. Along for the ride is Sugar, their white pooch. Sugar wasn't too sure about Mardi Gras but she predicts the Saints by three points in the final quarter. She also does an impressive weasel impression.

Nicole, Sugar and Rob are stranger encounter number seventy-six in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.

I met Squirrel and Sheri as they dismounted their Harley Davidson outside the Rat Hole Lounge. It was a cold wet day, but the two bikers were still in the wind. "Mind if I take your picture with your scoot?" I asked.

Squirrel agreed, and suddenly his wife Sheri scampered up to join him. "Not without me," she smiled. I took several frames, and we talked a bit.

Squirrel was on two spoked wheels, dripping oil and wearing leather long before Harley Davidson motorcycles became the trendy accessory for many professionals. He finds the current interest in motorcycling and the biker culture to be amusing and good for business. Squirrel owns an independent motorcycle shop where he is the chief mechanic and resident guru of all things motorcycle related. He enjoys a loyal following of dedicated bikers who know a good mechanic does more than simply assemble or replace parts.

Squirrel and Sheri are Strangers #72 in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.
