The merlin, having recently flown from another tree, landed here giving me a nice perch on this old broken part of a tree trunk.

This is how I first encountered this merlin, high in a hackberry tree. I took a few steps and a few photos and the it flew away, but not far.
Así encontré primero este esmerejón, alto en un almez. Tomé unos pasos y unas fotos y entonce se fue volando pero no muy lejos.
