Hi Flickr Folks,

Have been out there sailing the last couple weeks. Have been visiting Sweden and Denmark. I must say these countrysides are pretty rad. I was furthermore able to come back to Kopenhagen for the second time in my life. It is an awesome city and really has the scandinavian spirit.

However today I show you guys another photo I did in Thailand whilst I was on a boat going from Koh Tao to the Mainland.

If you like to read my stories accompanying my photos I suggest to listen to this song as it reflects my mood… Have fun!

Of Monsters And Men – Dirty Paws

There was beautiful weather on the boat and the countryside was changing from wide areas to the typical Limestone-Rock-look that one can find everywhere in southern Thailand. As I have been on boats quite a lot I am always aware of clouds and the weather. So as I sat on the rooftop of the ship reading a book, I noticed some clouds in front of the boat quickly drifting to it’s end. I continued reading and closed my book just seconds before the rain started to poor. I had enough time to run into the inside of the boat before a crazy thunderstorm surprised us all.

As I looked outside I saw a crazy Typhoon hunting the boat. My camera was inside of the boat. To bad I was a little bit to slow to capture a really clear image of the Typhoon. The moment I had my camera ready it began to get very foggy. I clicked as fast as my D90 allowed me to do. This was the first shot and it really was the only one where one can see the crazy forces that jugle our planet the way THEY want to… Not US!

Luckily the Typhoon didn’t hit the boat. Everyone was lucky and most of the people haven’t even seen it as the fog was too thick to see through it.

I can only encourage all of you to once in your life go on a boat trip. Maybe not the ones with “Queen Elisabeth” of Southampton style, as you won’t be connected to the forces of nature whilst you revel in luxery!

If you are on a small ship you find time for your mind to rest. It is like a good prayer. You find time to restore!

Love,

Ben

As you look at this photo listen to the following song and take notice of the lyrics... Pretty intense!

MeWithoutYou - All Circles

A friend of mine, Nils 84 inspired me to upload a photo I have taken on Koh Tao, Thailand last year.

So what do we have here? A broing sunset? No, just look to the left and search for the Kite in the clouds.
As you can see there is nothing else on the water except of him.

What a nice feeling this must be?!? Possibly in this situation the best you can get!

Even though this guy just flew for about 5 seconds I am sure he must have felt like a bird and a fish at the same time… A birdfish… ?!?

However, I am talking crap! :)

Thanks for your support and love!

See you around,

Ben

Hi everybody!

Thanks for the overwhelming response to my lightning photo. It always astonishes me that you guys are so lovely. When I upload a photo, I don’t expect your nice comments and thoughts. So here I go with a huge THANKS!

However, this time I want tell a short story to the photo for all of you who like to hear it and may not have the possibility to go abroad or far from home due to physical circumstances.

Other circumstances do not count. Why? Because it is important to be creative, change your mindset through new cultures and sometimes breathe smokey city air or, in this case, clean Danish country air.
So this photo was taken in Bornholm, Denmark. Just before I left home for my half-a-year trip around the world, a friend asked me if I would like to do a sailing trip with him. Of course I said yes, as I was a student these days and had enough time!

After a really hard 120 nautic miles trip from Fehmarn right through the Baltic Sea, we arrived in Bornholm. 2 of 4 guys had some problems with the waves crashing against the boat if you know what I mean... Luckily I wasn’t one of them.
As we arrived in the local harbour, we left the boat.
If you have never been on a boat, you should know that the human body adapts to the shaking of the boat.
So if you leave, it honestly feels as if the ground is shaking! It is gets worse when you are having a session on the toilet… Sometimes this can be a reason for people to throw up.

Having discussed this issue, I want to let you know what happened next. We saw another boat close to us. It was full of older people (50+… I am sorry if he thinks he is old now but if you sail, you are a young guy if you are in your twenties) who laughed at us because we came out of the boat eating an apple. They told us they where Lufthansa pilots and after arriving in the harbor, they immediately drank a beer like every sailor does.

Then they told us they just did the longest boat ride they have ever done with approximately 70 nautic miles. As we told them we just did 120 nautic miles and having sailed through the night, they suddenly started to respect us. As we drank beer right after having finished our apple, these nice guys were really friendly and invited us over to have a chat about life and getting older.

Later that day, we explored Bornholm Island and right in midst of the sunset, I was able to capture this nice little Danish church. Looks a bit like in a dream right?

Oh, I am missing this place, the pure air, the smell and the feeling of just being free and being able to go where the wind takes me.

So far, thanks for the support! I am more than thankful!

I will come over to your streams the days to come and try to get an update about your recent works, which are important to me as they inspire me to do new stuff for you guys!

Love,

Ben

Hey Flickr Universe, what’s up out there? Hmm I am getting old. Maybe I should stop talking like this!

However. I leave every comment and imagination to this shape up to you. As always if there are nice architectural achievements they are built in Singapore… God! This city seems so perfect to me!

Today I am not having many words. I am a bit busy but I wanted to show you a black and white image I shot approximately 4 years ago. Haven't done Black and white for a while.
If you want, post your favourite self taken black and white photo in the comment seciton. I am curious to see how you do it!

I wish all the best for your new weeks!

Ben

What do you guys think or have experienced with the new layout? Does it help to get favs and comments and does it strengthen the community?
