I have just returned from a mad trip to Iceland. It was my 30th visit to the superb little country, and my first in January, so I've now visited during every month.

Instead of my usual few nights here, few nights there in a couple of locations I decided to rent a little house in Hellnar on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula for a week. I ended up going a day early and coming back a day late, due to crazy snow and winds. I made it out eventually, and made my flight home, but it was a little touch and go that I'd leave at one point! Anyway, it was truly magical...

Back here again... A brief respite in the weather to enjoy a walk on Kirkjusandur beach at Stokksnes. Forgot my waterproof trousers, and got a bit of water over the top of my boots on a couple of occasions...

I'm back in Iceland for my 4th trip this year! I'm currently stuck in a (lovely) cabin in south-east Iceland where there have been crazy winds for the past 24 hours. This was the view from my porch at sunset last night - absolutely beautiful and bizarre clouds morphing constantly as the light disappeared.

Sometimes you have to go a little crazy on the processing - some images just scream out for it.

This is a road in the Highlands of Iceland that I first drove along (and fell in love with) last September. The roads lead you into the mountains melting away into the distance...

I went volcano hunting again in Iceland! When the rumbles of earthquakes started on 4th July I got a little excited that another eruption might be on the cards. The shakes continued, and I booked a flight, and two days later, on 10th July, the fissures opened up just north-east of a little hill called Litli-Hrútur (Little Ram). The eruption settled down into one main crater, and I was able to visit a week later a couple of times, as well as one final time before I came home. Today it's barely still going, a tiny little cone has formed in the centre, spluttering the last of the lava up and out!

I also had an article published on the BBC Travel website on this - please have a look!
