Joseph Colling, the first farmer in the Lowville area, donated his land to the church in 1846. Prior to the construction of the church, services were held in a school on the north-east corner of Britannia Road and Guelph Line, and in a frame building on the present site, which was later replaced with the current brick structure. At that time it was named the Colling Church, and in 1855, it became the Lowville Wesleyan Methodist Church. It became one of 25 churches in the Nelson circuit. The present church was built in 1872 from orange bricks from the Bronte area.

Excerpt from heritageburlington.ca:

A very fine example of a Methodist Church and Meeting House. The tall and well proportioned frame structure has a cross-gabled T plan, with slightly projecting transepts at the rear. The gable ends have simple mouldings and pronounced eaves with returns. The enclosed vestibule at the front entrance has a lower gable roof and returns, which echo the main roof lines. The doors (one at the front of each transept and the front entrance) and the windows are all tall and narrow with round arches. The arches of the doors and the rear windows have gothic-arched tracery. The rear windows also have the original 15-panes with fine muntins. The other windows may have replacement glass. The front panelled door appears to be a replacement, and the painted-over door of the west side appears to have the original panelling. The timbers and narrow clapboard siding were supplied by William Bousfield who owned a saw mill in Tally Ho.

Built in 1860 (date plaque and BHS Plaque) on land donated by George Harbottle, on East Street where the cemetery remains today. The church was part of the circuit with Lowville, Salem (on Walkers Line), Bethesda(on the Trafalgar town line), Mountain, Nassagawaya and Davidsons'.

In 1878 the Church was moved on skids to its present location by Hall Gunby (a noted local bam builder), a Mr Curliss who had equipment for moving buildings, and the men of Kilbride. The oxen were supplied by James McNiven, George Harbottle and George Bennett.

The church was built in 1875 by James Cushie Bent and was home to Calvary Baptist Church until 1967. The building is built in distinctive composite styles which blend Victorian vernacular traditions with strongly individual design elements. The church blends a simple Gothic Revival style, evident in the Gothic-arched windows and door, with an Italianate square tower with bulls-eye windows. Bent purchased the neighbouring lot in 1884 and built a house for himself in 1888 which he deeded to the church to become the Manse after his death. His sister, however, occupied it and apparently assumed that she had inherited it. In 1926, the church took the new owner of the 'Manse' to court in an attempt to claim the property but lost the claim. In 1930, some members left to form a new congregation, which eventually built Burlington Baptist Church on New Street in 1954. In 1968, the building was bought by the Roman Catholic Church to serve the francophone congregation.
