In 2017, Canada turned 150 years old and Bronte celebrated the occasion by showcasing over 60 community hand-painted Muskoka chairs throughout the district. Now in its sixth year, the At Home in Bronte Muskoka chairs have become an iconic art installation that helps to kick-off the changing seasons.

Visitors are invited to explore our beautiful waterfront and surrounding businesses to check out each uniquely designed chair by local artists, including Sheridan College students. There are 100+ chairs to explore! Each art chair has a hidden lighthouse icon waiting to be discovered.

This program is organized and paid for by the Bronte BIA and its 175+ businesses. It is part of our effort to encourage local residents and visitors to get outdoors, get active and enjoy the colour, vibrancy and charm of Bronte.

Excerpt from hamiltonnews.com:

Lyon Cabin Vernerville: The 19th century structure, which cost the Town $290,000 to restore, was once home to English immigrants George and Mary Lyon for whom the dwelling is named.

Built around 1820, the cabin was originally located in the Village of Vernerville, which was at Trafalgar and Upper Middle roads.

The Town’s Parks and Open Space Director Chris Mark said in 1973, when the area was being developed, the cabin was taken apart and moved to Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in a bid to preserve it.

Later that same year, the components of the cabin were moved to Shipyard Park, near Oakville Harbour, where it was reassembled.

“The cabin has been in Shipyard Park for a number of years. It was used by our harbours staff on occasion, particularly in the spring and fall when we are launching and hauling boats,” said Mark.

“For a period of time, it also served as a substation for the Oakville Village Constable.”

In 2008 the Town passed a master plan for the west side of the Sixteen Mile Creek, which identified the cabin as heritage structure needing attention.

Mark said that because shoreline repair work was anticipated for the site on which the cabin stood, it was relocated within the park and moved onto a newly constructed foundation.

The Town also replaced rotten logs, the roof and chimney of the registered heritage property as well as numerous windows.

The restoration and move took place between December 2013 and May 2014 with Mark noting the Town is pleased with the results.

The cabin is currently empty and has no heating or electricity, however Mark said the Town hopes to rectify that in the near future as the Town hopes to make it available for public use.

Allan was Robert Kerr and Flora's youngest son. With Allan's improvements to the gardens and grounds of Erchless, the estate became the elegant property it remains today.

Allan added the Coach House, Carriage Path, Tennis Courts and the ornamental Gate which still stands at the north entrance to the property. As well, Allan modified the driveway that led to Erchless' front doors.
