St. Stephen's Church was organized in 1835 as the third church in Maple. The church was designated under Ontario Heritage Act in 1985.

Built in 1830, this white, clapboard church is the oldest original church still in use in the Diocese of Toronto. Thornhill got its name from one of the church founders, Benjamin Thorne. The church was moved in 1950 from a location on Yonge Street to the present location.
