The Jan Hus Monument was built by Ladislav Saloun in 1915 to commemorate a 15th century preacher who challenged the Roman Catholic hierarchy, and was burned at the stake for it in 1415. There are two groups of people on the monument: the victorious Hussite warriors, and Protestants forced into exile. The young mother symbolizes national rebirth. The monument is located in front of the Kinsky Palace which was designed by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer in Rococo style. It was purchased from the Golz family in 1768 by Stepan Kinsky, an imperial diplomat.
