The town of St.-Laurent was founded in 1679, and rowboats were used to be built here for the islanders to cross the St. Lawrence River. The parish was founded in 1678, and a church at the present site was built in 1695. The present church was built in 1860.

The church claims to be the oldest church in Quebec, being built between 1716-1718. It was designated as a historic monument in 1954.

One of the three wooden statues sculpted in Munich, Germany, and is about 1.5 metres tall. It was offered to the parish in 1864.
