The three domes in the administrative building houses 15-cm, 50-cm, and 60-cm telescopes. In 1987, its station in Chile witnessed the first supernova. It also has Canada's largest optical telescope with 1.88-metre telescope. Built in 1935, and in 1972, discovered Cygnus X-1, the first black hole ever identified, by Charles Thomas Bolton, one of the observatory’s astronomers.
