Crawford Lake is very small but very deep (80 feet deep). There is very little or no oxygen below 49 feet, thus preserving artifacts at the bottom of the lake. Geologically, the lake is known as meromectic lake, which means that the lake is disproportionally deeper than the surface, therefore waves seldom occur.

This is the 15th century Iroquoian Village reconstructed on its original site. Turtle clan longhouse is the smallest, and would be home to 30-40 family members.
