It is 728 meters (2,550 ft) long, and filled with about 14,000 paintings. Unfortunately only about 8,000 survived the Cultural Revolution. This was where the royal families would come and relax.

Initially built by Qianlong for Dowager Cixi to watch operas before the completion of the Great Stage in the Garden of Virtues and Harmony (德和園). The Hall of Listening to Orioles is located mid-way on Longevity Hill, and was the place where the royal families would come to enjoy the operas and hold banquets.
