The church was erected in 1844 with the generous donations of money and land from both the Dickson and Shade families. In 1885, the Norman style tower that you now see replaced the original wooden spire. the interior of this gothic style house of worship must have been quite a sight originally because it was lit by candles attached to the white pillars that support the second floor galleries.
Something that might puzzle the contemporary observer are the doors on each pew. It was the custom of the times for each family to pay an annual pew rental to reserve their place in church.
