Crawford Lake is very small but very deep (80 feet deep). There is very little or no oxygen below 49 feet, thus preserving artifacts at the bottom of the lake. Geologically, the lake is known as meromectic lake, which means that the lake is disproportionally deeper than the surface, therefore waves seldom occur.
