At over 2 kilos, the eider duck is our heaviest sea duck. It is easily recognizable by the triangular head shape with a very high beak root. The male duck wear their high-contrast splendor almost all year round. Incidentally, the name has nothing to do with the river Eider, but derives from the Icelandic god Aegir.
