A trip around venice by boat is a must. If posible, try and do so either early in the morning or at twilight -- the light is magical and the temperature cool. You'll see many of these wooden structures peeping out over the waves... any idea what they are called?

Chiesa d'Oro = Church of gold

This was the nickname given to St Mark's Basilica because of its opulent interior of gilded Byzantine mosaics. Despite my normal aversion to gaudiness, I quite like the interior of this place of worship, possibly due to it being such an unusual design.

I hope this image comes across like a painting, with a slight dreamy touch to it... that's what this basilica seemed like to me and I've tried to recreate that with my camera.
