I took a step forward, tentatively.
The compound, a military installation guarding the superweapon I'd been payed to steal, was pretty impenetrable already with all the guards and lights, but just to make things even more difficult, they'd lined some hallway floors with metal sheeting.
Thankfully, this wasn't one of them: concrete under my shoes. Loud if I wasn't too careful, but better than steel gratings. Creeping through the darkness, I passed a light... and a guard...
"Damn. The brass at HQ must be crazy if they think anyone is going to try to break into this place... and why'd they have to stiff me with a hallway post? ...it's dark as the woods."

if you've played any of the Thief games, you'll know where I'm coming from with this... it's not supposed to be in that actual universe, or at least not at the time period in the games, but it's heavily inspired by Dark Project.
