I've been absent from Flickr these last days, as I was travelling to Guiné-Bissau and Bijagós with a Portuguese ONG "Mundo a Sorrir" to photograph their work in-progess there. The field of intervention of this ONG is Oral Health (prevention and treatment).

It was my first visit to Guiné and it was a delight. People from Guiné are so friendly and the natural environment is so beautiful! I made some photographs that I will gladly share with you.

I met this young woman during my first day in Bissau. A little talk, two or three photographs and we became friends so quickly. We promised to keep in touch through Facebook (the good side of Facebook... )

Bissau

It's a normal school day. Before going back home the children are given a meal, sometimes the only food they eat in a whole day. This time they had rice with mango.

Guiné-Bissau. With the Portuguese ONG "Mundo a Sorrir".

Still in school environment. It is the teacher who teaches the kids hygiene basic routines. They are washing their hands before they eat the meal that is being prepared for them. Water is a scarce resource in Guiné-Bissau and made available here through a tea pot. No water wastage.
This is a special school and belongs to a network of world missions (Pepe-network) which brings hope to these children. I cannot imagine how could they survive without this help...
