Casa das Artes, a space dedicated to the arts, is located in the gardens of a neo-classical mansion in Porto dating of the early 20th century. The new cultural space was built in 1991, and perfectly integrated in the environment.It consisted of an auditorium, a cinema and an exhibition gallery. This was a project of architect Eduardo Souto Moura, and was mainly composed of two parallel granite stone walls with a very minimalistic approach. Ten years ago it was closed (nobody knows why) and completely vandalised. Curiously, Casa da Música was being built by then...
Before leaving Porto for Lisbon I was attending Casa das Artes on a regular basis. It upset me greatly when I knew that this place of culture had been vandalized. I am so happy now to be able to enjoy this space and these gardens soon again ...
