Long lives the tree if you let «her» grow... Don't let your trees burn!
This Summer, Portugal lost a relevant part of forest, not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. Do you know how long takes a tree to grow? See here.

So, I, like Alice in Wonderland, drank a bottle of water, imagining it was a magic potion, and started growing... soon I would be big enough to climb on that tree! :)

The oak was considered a national symbol of Portugal, since the 22nd Dec. 2011 , becoming thus a «national tree». I am proud to have this tree as another symbol of the Portuguese nationality, besides the hymn and the flag.

Lara and Afonso were here with me this day. I dedicate this photograph to them and wish them all the health and strength this tree seems to have...

...

"This is mine too!", Lara said...

«"This is mine," he said simply, and his eyes sparkled with tears and his brain was filled with wonder that this should be his. There was pity in him for the grass and the flowers; he felt that the trees were his children and the land his child. For a moment he seemed to float high in the air and to look down upon it. "It's mine," he said again, "and I must take care of it."» In Steinbeck's book, To a God Unknown .
