I went to the tiger enclosure first thing, this morning (well, almost first thing - had to try to capture the 10 macaws that they released simultaneously, which are trained to fly to another part of the zoo), in order to beat the crowds. It didn't work (had to wait for breaks between the bratty kids). Neither did shooting the macaws. I never saw one of them. I just held down the shutter and blasted away at 6 frames/second, hoping for an accidental shot with one in the frame. I only got a small piece of one, and it was blurred.

Explore #234, 10/1/08.

These parrots, the fruit dove in the previous shots, as well as a couple of species I'll add in the future, are all in the same enclosure - a large, Plexiglas-fronted cage, with no natural sunlight, alongside of the path to the tigers. There are electric lights, angled from the top, near the glass, which are probably also heat lamps, but they aren't bright enough for good photography. The viewing area is dark, making it hard for the animals (lucky for them) to see the viewers. I'm so proud of myself for resisting the temptation to say something about the seeds on his beak.

His head looks awful, due to mo(u)lting, and I think he knows it.
Not really, but I do, so I'm only sharing the photos where it doesn't show that much.
He looks pretty good from the neck down, though.
