This is a time lapse video of the storms I saw on a storm chasing trip in 2018. Flickr will not necessarily display the video very well, so if you want to see the 4K version, you can see it on my YouTube channel.

I went on two storm chasing trips on the US Great Plains: one in 2017 (there's a time lapse for that trip, too) and one in 2018. The one good thing about the pandemic is that it gives you time to work on things you've left on the back burner and I'd left the images for this time lapse on the back burner for almost 3 years!

If you don’t know what a time lapse is – it’s a video created from multiple still images shot at regular intervals. It allows you to speed up time. For example, 10 seconds of this video may represent 10 minutes of real time or more. The images for this time lapse (over 3,000 of them, plus another 3,000 which didn't make it into the video) were shot over seven days of storm chasing with Mike Olbinski through Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.

If you'd like to see the still images from my 2017 and 2018 storm chasing trips, you can find them on the storm chasing gallery of my website.

I'm sorry you were greeted with a big black screen - it seems if you embed a video on Flickr that fades in from black, the thumbnail will be black. : ( But if you've made it this far, it seems you decided to press play and for that, I thank you!

I present to you my short film: Eight Days in Antarctica. I’m certainly no filmmaker, but Antarctica was so awe-inspiring and so beautiful that I tried to capture some of it on video, though just handheld on my phone, as I was really concentrating on photography. I really enjoyed rewatching all the clips to pick my favourites and editing them into this short film.

I never know how videos will show up on Flickr, so if you'd like to see it in its full 4K glory, head over to YouTube.

I hope you enjoy!

If you'd like to see all my Antarctica images together, you can visit my Flickr Antarctica album.

I wrote three blog posts about this amazing trip to Antarctica. If you'd like read about the trip and see some more documentary/BTS images, you'll find the blog posts here:

Antarctica, Part 2
Antarctica, Part 3

While I was out storm chasing with Mike Olbinski in May, I decided to try my hand at time lapse. Wow, what a steep learning curve that was! From the field (where we often didn't have much time to get images) to home (where I had to learn three new software programs to put this together and where I spent many hours and days working on it). Despite many hiccups, I'm quite proud of this, if only because I tried something very different for me. I hope you like it.

I licensed the music through Audio Network. It's called Radiant Flux by Mark Petrie.

Press 'L' if you want to see it large. You can also see in in 4K on YouTube, should you be so inclined. : )

If you'd like see more images I took while storm chasing, take a look at my Storm Chasing album.
