This past Sunday I went to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia (Mission San Luis Rey) in Oceanside to photograph Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead festivities.

While photographing I was approached by a spectator and she asked me if I was Aaron Chang, a San Diego based photographer who became well known for his surf and ocean photography.

While we are both Asian males, raised in the South Bay of San Diego and photographers, I cracked a smile and replied, "Sorry, I'm not Aaron Chang."

I was actually honored to be mistaken for a world renown photographer such as Aaron Chang. My next goal is to be mistaken for Ev Yorobe so I have an excuse to triple my photography prints prices!

Back to this portrait.

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday and is celebrated throughout Mexico. Family and friends get together to pray and remember their loved ones who have passed away. This is not a time of mourning, but rather it is a joyful celebration of life, food, friends and family.

It was a great day for mistaken identity, meeting up with great local photographers and making portraits. Thank you to all the people who were generous with their time to pose for me.

Thanks guys for all your views, comments and favs!

Happy Travels!

The history of the Day of the Dead is a syncretism of Pre-Hispanic and Spanish customs. The celebration takes place on November 1–2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2).
