Experience the energy and excitement of modern Istanbul along Istiklal Street. Imagine New York City’s Time Square, The Las Vegas’ Strip and Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive all rolled into one...and you have Istiklal Street (Avenue).
This nearly mile long pedestrian street features shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, museums, live music, bars, cinemas, pubs, nightclubs and even a Catholic Church. Since there is so much to do along this street, it can be very crowded, as in up to 3 million people a day!
I spent an afternoon practicing my street photography and talking with many locals. Here is just a small sample of what I experienced.

The Star of India has survived and thrived through collisions, cyclones, ice, mutiny and has circled the globe 21 times. It was built in England on the Isle of Man in 1863 and arrived in San Diego in 1927. I went to the Broadway Pier the other night (6/17/2020) and saw the construction that is changing the face of San Diego’s waterfront, yet through all that the Star of India remains the same.

The city center of Morelia, Mexico is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The city has one of the most beautiful cathedrals in all of Mexico, especially when it is illuminated at night. The cathedral took more than a century to build (1640–1744), which explains its combination of Herreresque, baroque and neoclassical styles.

Chinle, Arizona, United States: High angle view of from the Sliding House overlook at Canyon de Chelly National Monument.
This little gem of a national monument is tucked away in Northern Arizona. It is unique in that it is operated by both the National Park Service and the Navajo Tribal Trust. The Navajo consider the canyon a very holy place.
The Navajo still live in the canyon and access to the canyon is restricted to tours accompanied by a park ranger or Navajo guide (the only exception is the trail to the White House Ruins).
A trip to Canyon de Chelly (de-SHAY) is rewarding not only for great photographs, but for the spirit.
