I spent this weekend photographing the San Diego American Indian Health Center’s Annual Pow Wow in Balboa Park. It is a cultural event that showcases the heritage and traditions of American Indians. I spent the afternoon making portraits, but was not satisfied with the results.
I remembered a quote from photojournalist Steve McCurry when he learned to watch and wait on life. “If you wait,” he realized, “people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view.”
I waited patiently for a “soul to drift up into my view” and I was rewarded with this storytelling image as this Aztec dancer from Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca walked across my frame with the colorful feathers in the background.
Thanks guys for all your views, comments and favs!
Happy Travels!
