I am not happy with the new Flickr layout and the fact that you can’t opt out anymore. It is not so much the visual format, but more of the functionality (i.e. tags, notes, commenting).
I guess Getty saw the “signs” of decline since they ceased their partnership with Flickr last month. I am giving serious thoughts of leaving Flickr entirely and starting brand new with 500px or spending more time building my presence over at Google+ (Facebook is pissing me off too these days).
The only thing keeping me here are you guys. I have made many Flickr friendships over the years and it would be hard to break that bond. The other day I was viewing some of my older Flickr images and I noticed the contacts leaving their comments from four years ago are still following my photostream and still faithfully leaving comments. Thanks guys!
Hey Flickr do like the NSA and listen to us! Go back to the old format!
Off the soap box now…
In 2012 Forbes Magazine named North Park one of America’s Hippest Hipster Neighborhoods. I didn’t need Forbes Magazine to tell me that since I have been going to this San Diego neighborhood for years. My favorite Christian bookstore, camera shop and coffee lounge are located there or were. I have been patronizing those businesses for years, but now the Christian bookstore has closed down and I do all my camera shopping online. Fortunately the coffee lounge, Claire de Lune, is still in business.
I started a mini-project of photographing these historic neon signs around various neighborhoods in San Diego. Photographing North Park’s neon sign was a bit dangerous since I was standing in the middle of traffic in the narrow part of the island to capture this long exposure shot. Afterwards, I rewarded my bravery by heading down the street corner on the right for a nice cup of coffee at Claire de Lune.
