A wooden bridge crossing Sand Creek between Deer Valley and Empire Mine Roads, Antioch, CA. This was adjacent to the former mining town of West Hartley, CA (1860-1906) when the Black Diamond Mines were in operation.
4-exposure manual blend (+2, 0, -2, -4), using the D FA 35mm f/3.5 on the 645Z. Aperture at f/18 to coax out a sunstar.
Hope you like it.

Among the most fascinating things I saw in Namibia, are the nests of the sociable weaver (Philetairus socius), a species of bird in the weaver family, endemic to Southern Africa.
The species builds large, compound, community nests, a rarity among birds. These nests are amongst the largest built by any bird. They are large enough to house over 100 pairs of birds, containing several generations at a time. The nests are highly structured and provide birds with a more advantageous temperature relative to the outside.
When I saw this nest during an afternoon game drive, I knew that I had to come back and shoot it after nightfall. Fortunately, there normally are no predators in this area and the Rhinos we had seen closeby in the afternoon were gone too.

I guess there is no better reason to publish this image of me capturing the spring Milky Way during a wonderful night of astrophotography at the Gantrisch in April 2020.

The colorful Rho Ophichui cloud complex is one the closest star forming regions in our Milky Way and a favorite target for astrophotography. Highlighted by the bright star Antares, the region provides an impressive spectacle of colorful glowing gases, juxtaposed with converging dark rivers of thick dust.
IC 4604 (Rho Ophiuchi Nebula) is a large diffuse nebula of 5th magnitude located in the southwestern corner of the constellation Ophiuchus (Serpent Bearer), surrounding the bright multiple star system ρ (Rho) Ophiuchi. Several regions of bright and dark nebulosity surround the area, which takes its name from ρ Oph.
At the mid-northern lattitudes, I normally work from, it plays a bit hard to get, as it always rides close to the horizon and is only visible for a few hours during nights from spring to mid summer.
During my Namibia trip in 2023, I had the pleasure to shoot this wonderful area riding high in the unspoiled southern hemisphere sky.
