Maybe it’s a bit kitsch to some people, or a little bit less than “realistic” to others, but I like including sea birds in my seascape images… even if I’m shooting the waves at a relatively slow shutter speed. I’ll often be shooting a scene like this on a tripod, snapping exposure after exposure to get a wave I like, then end up cranking the ISO and drop the shutter speed on my camera to capture the birds that are almost always flying around over the coast, then blending the two together in post. I know the idea of two different shutter speeds feels a bit… off. But I like the sense of waves creeping up the beach while looking up and seeing the coastal birds. To me that’s what standing at the edge of the ocean feels like. So yeah, like I said, it’s probably kitsch… but so is pretty much every photo I make if I’m honest.

As always, thanks for scrolling far enough to see my dumb little picture.
