The Shell Fire rages on late Sunday night, July 27, 2021, having burned nearly 2,000 acres. The fire was ignited by a car fire Sunday afternoon near Grapevine Road in southern Kern County, Southern California. The car fire began in northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, spreading to the surrounding brush.
Temperatures in the area topped 107 degrees Sunday.
I took this picture from the open driver's side window. I could feel the extreme heat coming from the flames. My car's instrument panel and another car were reflected in the shot.
