Ever since TLG made that VW T1 in red and white aiming also larger for the AFOL market, the thought of building with lego to create scale models turned out to be a great concept, no matter the scale. However, those big scale cars are a bit too much imo if you dont have that desk space or are aiming for a "discrete" LEGO model on your work/office desk/ cupboards. High detail, small space was the aim for me 3 years ago to present LEGO not just as a toy, but also as something every adult will find cool or interesting to look at (similar to the architecture product line)
Bricks are a system prior to a toy, so making use of it without any toy like association definately helped in the designing progress
For myself, i m where i wanted to be with the brick built cars - and im really glad to see a few of my models in their final forms.
If i eventually get back to this hobby i might try something else instead ;)
