Whitby’s old lighthouse and fog horns stand 240 feet above sea level on the cliff top near the North Yorkshire coastal town. The fog horns were decommissioned by Trinity House in 1988 with an electric hooter taking their place. The original lighthouse, opened in 1858, would have been run on paraffin but in 1976 it was electrified and then fully automated in 1992.

The lighthouse is located beside the Cleveland Way coastal footpath between Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay.
