It is a spring ritual in the mideast state in the United States: go out to a park near you where forest meets meadow and listen to the timberdoodles after sunset. If you are lucky, you may see them fly. If you are very lucky, one will lend near you. We were very lucky tonight...

From Wiki: The American woodcock, sometimes colloquially referred to as the timberdoodle, is a small shorebird species found primarily in the eastern half of North America. Woodcocks spend most of their time on the ground in brushy, young-forest habitats, where the birds' brown, black, and gray plumage provides excellent camouflage. The American woodcock is the only species of woodcock inhabiting North America.
