One of the oldest buildings in Copenhagen, the Old Stock Exchange dates back to 1624/5. King Christian IV wanted to revitalize international trade with the rest of Europe, and the Stock Exchange was surrounded by water on three sides, so ships could unload cargo at the site.
The Spire (see next photo for detail) is (was, now that a fire on April 16, 2024 destroyed it) was made up of four intertwined dragon tails said to protect it from enemy attacks and fires... and did, until today. At the top of the spire are three crowns, symbolizing the Scandinavian empire of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
The building is no longer the Stock Exchange and is used instead for conferences, galas and other significant events.
