User / Paul Anthony Moore / The 'His Majesty' Oak and me. This gives you an idea of how big the tree is

As a rule, I don't put photos of myself on Flickr, but I felt that a comparison was necessary. I'm 189 centimeters tall (6 feet 2 inches), so this gives you an ideas of how big the tree is. The camera was about 30 meters from the tree on a tripod, so I had to run pretty fast to get myself in the picture :)

This massive tree known as His Majesty can be found on the Fredville Park Estate in the village of Nonington between Dover and Canterbury. Many regard it as the most impressive of all British Oaks with an enormous trunk circumference of 12.3 meters (40 feet) and a height of 18 meters (60 feet) . It is believed to be between 600 and 800 years old, but some people think that it is at least 1000 years old. Not long before I took this photo, a large splayed branch snapped off the truck and now rests on the ground. The tree itself is hollow, but very much alive.
