I was recently asked to photograph a house with a lot of personal memories for someone whose elderly parents had moved out.
Decades of history for the family ingrained in the marks on the wall, the furniture, its placement. It was a joy to capture the idiosyncrasies of the space and find out about the stories which are now a part of the building.
As an architectural photographer, this is the other end of what I capture for my day job. It's the end of this phase for the house. Like an instrument, one owner passing it on to another, it's just a part of its ongoing story. The beginning of the next chapter. It was yet another opportunity for me to reflect, absorb and capture the environment and think how very lucky I am to be asked to put someone else's most heartfelt stories into images.
It's amazing how the thrill of photography applies to all spaces, not just the newest and most pristine. It's the ones with stories which really strike a chord.
