I've managed to narrow my ID down to this being a bird.... but no further!

Taken at the Harold Porter Botanic Gardens, Western Cape, South Africa on the 8th December 2012.

Many thanks to Tim Melling, fbarz and Steve Covey (Odoman) for sorting the ID for me... apparently it's a South African endemic!
