De kathedraal werd de begraafplaats van de abten van het klooster van Doberan tot in de 20e eeuw, en ook de begrafenis plaats van de leiders van het huis van Mecklenburg en was van politiek en sociaal belang. Het interieur bleef van oorlogsgeweld en “Beeldenstorm” grotendeels gespaard. In geen ander cisterciënzer kerk Europawijd is een zo rijke middeleeuws interieur bewaard gebleven. (wordt vervolgd)
