detail out of the print, Tibetan text
explanation of Tibetan woodprint:
It is Tibetan.
In the centre is the windhorse who is carrying the Kalacakra Monogram on his back.
At the four corners are starting at the top left and going clockwise
a garuda - mythical bird/man hybrid
a naga - a mythical serpent race who bestow wisdom
a tiger
a snow lion
at the bottom and the two sides, and along the bottom of the top panel are the 8 auspicious symbols. Including on the sides two svastika which are ancient Indian symbols of good fortune.
at the top from left to right are three mythical figures representing the three fundamental virtues of late Buddhism
1. Chenrezi (Sanskrit Avalokitesvara) associated with the quality of compassion and a protector of Tibet. The Dalai Lamas are said to be an emanation of Chenrezi
2. Jampelyang (Mañjuśrī) who is associated with wisdom
3. Chana Dorje (Vajrapani) associated with energy, in particular "virya" or "energy in pursuit of the good". Also spiritual break-through.
The bold text directly under the figures at the top are their mantras written in the Lantsa script.
I don't understand Tibetan and my reading of the script is quite weak - it starts: kya ga ska da ta. It's probably a prayer for good fortune.
So the whole thing is basically a good luck charm.
Best Wishes
Jayarava
thank you very much Jayarava
