Shot these violets a couple of weeks ago at Nine Times Preserve in upstate South Carolina.

I used Photoshop to add a painterly effect on them. I'd be curious to know what you think of this type of artistic processing.

Got up yesterday and with the weather looking nice and cloudy, I quickly got my gear together for some more wildflower hunting. I really hit the mother lode on the trail to Melrose Falls outside Saluda, NC. Numerous species of wildflowers were blooming everywhere along the hike, i.e., two types of trillium, mayapple, bloodroot, and several more.

This Fernleaf Phacelia caught my eye with the light shining on it. While sometimes I use textures with my wildflower photos, this background was all natural. I really liked the soft tones with the lighting. Great way to start a day.

Drove up to Persimmon Ridge near Cleveland, SC for a wildflower hike. Just at the start of the trail I found this lone Sessilefeaf Bell Wort. It was growing from the charred remnants of a controlled burn two weeks earlier.

A friend of mine showed me a new way in Photoshop to create my own texture background with a bit of a painterly feel.

A couple of weeks ago a buddy and I went hunting for Oconee Bells (shortia galacfloiia). These very tiny flowers require a very specific environment. In our case on the side of a creek. So in order to shoot them we generally needed to be in the creek ourselves.

This flowers are very hard to photograph if there is the slightest of air movement as their stem is extremely thin. It definitely takes patient. I was fortunate to find this nice grouping with some green background.
