Today at Murray Marsh, this bittern posed perfectly just across the ditch from my vehicle....except for the barb wire that looked like it might garrot it. So I decided a close-up would have to do. This is the full frame shot, no cropping. I tried clonning out the wire but it would take a lot of precision work to get it done properly. Square crop will be quicker.

A highlight of our annual camping trip to Elk Island is photgraphing from the kayak on Lake Astotin. This year we saw three American Bittern including this immature one. I particularly liked this image as it captures the elusiveness of this species. We paddled by this one towards an adult perched on a fence. Only when it moved, did we notice it.
