As I was sitting beside the lake, this Heron silently flew in (and I missed the incoming flight) and stood right next to me. Unfortunately, I did not have my lens cap to remove my extenders to shoot a bit wider, but I was able to pull off a few closeups (with the 2.5 meters MFD of my lens). I should have used my cellphone to get a full body shot.

I finally got some time to work on some photos tonight, and I decided to work on this white-silvery beauty, which was pretty much at a petting distance. You should have seen that it was right next to Don's foot as Don, Dale, and I were walking at the shoreline of the lake. Just too bad the number of shorebirds seen that day was less than 2 weekends ago.
I will post the rest of the Sanderling series tomorrow night. In the mean time, enjoy this lovely portrait!
