This is a captive owl displayed at Francis Viewing Point. According to Ray Cromie, this owl was hit by a car and is blind in one eye, so it cannot survive on its own.

I'm not a fan of photographing captive birds because it's not challenging enough in terms of photography. However, it was a great opportunity to expose the indented dark eyes with better detail, which is not easy with wild Barred Owls. It was also a great honor to listen to Ray Cromie's presentation.

Although the lighting in the evening didn't turn out as expected, it was still a wonderful session with Richard, Glenn, and Ray at the Cooking Lake area with this gorgeous Northern Hawk Owl, and also took a few people shots here and there. Some more owl photos to come shortly.

GGOw standing on the snow-covered ground. I thought it was interesting to see how it hid its prey (if it caught one), glanced around in all directions, then grabbed its prey with its bill and took off.
