Snow Goose Chase, Tofield, AB, Canada
April 30, 2011

This is a captive owl displayed at Francis Viewing Point. According to Ray Cromie, this owl was hit by a car and is blind in one eye, so it cannot survive on its own.

I'm not a fan of photographing captive birds because it's not challenging enough in terms of photography. However, it was a great opportunity to expose the indented dark eyes with better detail, which is not easy with wild Barred Owls. It was also a great honor to listen to Ray Cromie's presentation.

Gerry B and I took a trip up north and we had a "great gray" day.

The leading shot is what we started with and the photo below is what we ended with for the day. Nice contrast in the weather eh! The lighting may be stale, but I think GGOw's look better in this sort of weather and lighting condition. Enjoy!

This is probably my last set of Snowy Owl photos, but I may post another set if I feel like it. What a great year it has been to see that many SOs during my brief outings. The featured shot shows SO #8 on a shorter wooden post, which I think it doesn't look too shabby compare to a SO on an insulator or a SO at a steep angle as encountered most of the time! This owl was tame enough to stay on the post for photos, and it stayed on the same post when I met up with Richard, Corey, and Rick later in the day.
