My home country of Australia has some of the best beaches in the world and typically they are long stretches of white or yellow sand.

Iceland however dramatically challenges this stereotype and presents black sandy beaches and, in the case of Breiðamerkursandur, it is littered with chunks of ice of varying sizes.

The ice originates from the receding Breiðamerkurjökull glacier which dumps large pieces of ice into the Jökulsárlón lagoon.
The lagoon is open to the sea and so the ice is carried out on the tides and is dumped on the beach.

A fresh and unique canvas is presented each day. This is just one of them.

Hope you enjoy my take on this incredible location
