Loaded up the Zeiss ZM with Efke 50 for some test shots with the new Zeiss Distagon 35mm f1,4. Nice lens, looks big but it is actually quite light and fits the hand very well - at least on the ZM. How good is it? It is as good a 35 as I have ever used, particularly used wide open. It did some shots with Melvin's Summilux 35f1.4 FLE and I can't see any difference between them as to sharpness and contrast. I suspect we are looking at "diminishing returns" here - these lenses are most likely better than any film we have or any sensor.

Melvin and I kept swapping lenses back and forth. This is with his Summilux 35mm f1.4 FLE. I know, because I can see the hood of the Distagon on his camera. Afterr some shots and "chimping" he said "I bought the wrong lens!". The Summilux FLE is an improvement over the Summilx Asph, both in flare control and focus shift - but it is also more than double the price of the Distagon 35f1.4. A bit smaller, but heavier.

Closest focus with either the Summilux 35f1.4 FLE or the Distagon 35mm f1.4!

Even a 35mm lens has a shallow depth of field at f1.4. Row of lights on patio railing. The "bokeh" is not too bad - smooth enough for me.

Switched to Rodinal 1:100 rather than mixing up a new batch of Beutler. The Efke 50 woks well with it - a bit high contrast but still very sharp.
Decorated Mini - looks like it would blush if you told it a rude joke!
