Vancouver has a large japanese population as well as 10's of 1000's of Japanese students, so the Powell Street festival is one way of going "native" for a day or two.

The Powell Street Festival - this is put on by the Japanese societies here in Vancouver every year. This is Oppenheimer Park, usually home to the homeless tent city, but they agreed to take down their camp during the day!
